Weather: Assam to experience heavy rains during 11th – 15th May

Weather, May 11: Isolated heavy rain is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on 11th; Arunachal Pradesh on 11th; Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 11th-13th; Gangetic West Bengal during 11th-13th, and Odisha on 11th and 13th May.

An east-west trough from Punjab to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and a trough in westerlies in lower tropospheric levels will cause scattered to widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity over East and Northeast India during the next 4-5 days.

A north-south trough/wind discontinuity from Vidarbha to Kerala coast in lower levels will also give rise to light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rains and thunder over Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka.

Isolated to scattered rain and thundershowers are also likely over the remaining parts of South Peninsular India during the next 4-5 days.

Isolated heavy rainfall is possible over Kerala & Mahe during 11h-12th and 14th; Coastal Karnataka on 12th; Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 14th May.

As per The Weather Channel’s met team, there’s a possibility that a low-pressure area could form over the southeast Arabian Sea, off the Kerala coast on Saturday.

No heatwave conditions are likely over any part of the country during the next 4-5 days.

Maximum temperatures will be below normal over the plain areas of Northern, Central, Eastern, and Northeastern India in this period. Southern and Western India will be near normal or slightly cooler than normal, while the Western Himalayan Region will be near normal or slightly warmer in this period.

Minimum temperatures will be slightly lower over Telangana, interior Maharashtra and adjoining areas, and over Bihar and adjoining areas in this period. Other areas will be near normal or slightly warmer in this period

Meanwhile, a Western Disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds at lower levels are likely to cause scattered to widespread rainfall and thundershowers over the Western Himalayan Region, and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over the plains of Northwest India during May 11th-15th, with maximum intensity during 11th-13th May.

Further, isolated heavy rainfall is also on the cards over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13, which predicts India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Isolated hailstorms are possible over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on 12th and 13th, and Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and Rajasthan on the 12th.
