Assam losses 19 rhinos due to flood

Guwahati, Aug 7: Forest officials had arrested three poachers from Assam’s Orang National Park on Thursday night.

According to the reports, two hog deer came floating in the floodwaters and taking shelter at the Orang National Park and the park authorities kept the hog deer safe from the tigers.

But a three-member poacher gang on Thursday night had entered in the park and tried to kill the hog deer.

Forest guards of the park caught the poachers inside the park.

The arrested poachers were identified as Taleb Ali, Saidul Islam and Abdul Hussain.

On the other hand, Assam has lost 19 one-horned rhinos in the recent floods.

18 rhinos died in Kaziranga National Park while one died in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary due to flood.

According to the Kaziranga National Park authorities, the park has lost 153 wild animals including 18 rhinos, 107 hog deer, 6 wild buffalo, 12 wild boar 3 swamp deer in the recent flood.

The park authorities have rescued 172 animals including three rhinos, four tigers, 120 hog deer from the flood-affected areas inside the national park and nearby areas.
