Assam-Mizoram Border Tension: Assam Police fake escort to stranded Mizoram bound truck

Assam, 31st October: At least 160 trucks carrying essential commodities for Mizoram remain stranded at the Cachar area out of which 16 are driven by drivers of Mizoram who took refuge at the Mizoram House Silchar for their safety since Wednesday.

One Sub-inspector of Police and 2 constables approach the stranded Mizo drivers at Mizoram house Silchar asking them to cross the border and they would provide an escort to them.

Deputy Residence Commissioner at Silchar Mizoram House Saizikpuii however mitigating the possible danger so he deployed one Mizo police and 3 CRPF who were posted at Silchar Mizoraup touse to go along with the Mizoram truck drivers.

Sub-inspector of Assam police and 2 constables provide escort to Mizo drivers up to Sunabarigad from which 4 police personnel of Assam replaced them up to the Kabunganj area.

Here to the surprise for the Mizo drivers, the Assam police said “it was no longer tan heir area and they could no longer proceed further. So, contact Dholai police by themselves.”

3 police personnel without arms from Dholai Police station provided an escort to Mizo drivers. Assam police left at the hands of civilians in Lailapur.

The Mizo drivers reported that “as soon as we reach Lailapur, a large number of civilians armed with blades and sticks surrounded us and threatened us for our lives

Mizo police and 3 CRPF personal control the situation and drop the drivers at Silchar Mizoram’s house.

Union Home Secy Ajayup to Bala had convened video conferencing with both the state’s Chief Secretary on the boundary standoff issue.

In the discussion, the Mizoram government said ” we have provided an immediate escort to Assam bound trucks stranded within Mizoram up to Can achar area. All the trucks within Mizoram state safely crossed the border

On the other hand, the administration of the Assam side does not comply with the decision of the Chief Secretary level meeting and continued with the economic blog chase. Not even a single truck has entered Mizoram for the past 3 days.

It could be seen as a breakdown of law and order in the Cachar area of Assam. Lalnunmawia Chuaungo Chief Secretary of Mizoram sent a letter to Assam Chief Secretary asking him to urgently inquired into the matter and to give consent to the government of Mizoram to sent Police forces at its disposal up to Silchar to escort all stranded vehicles along National Highway bound for Mizoram as the Drivers had completely lost faith in the Assam police.
