India, 12th November: Bollywood actor Asif Basra has died by suicide at his home in Himachal Pradesh at the age of 53 on Thursday.

A forensic team has reached the spot to examine the cause of the death, the police said, adding an investigation into the matter has been initiated to find out whether it was death by suicide.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta took to Twitter and reacted to the tragic news. He wrote, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”

Replying to Hansal Mehta’s tweet, Manoj Bajpayee wrote “What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before Lockdown!!! Oh My God!,” he wrote.

Best known for his critically acclaimed roles in Anurag Kashyap‘s Black Friday and Rahul Dholakia’s Parzania. He had also appeared in several other Bollywood movies including, Abhishek Kapoor-directed Kai Po Che, Jab We Met, Hichki, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Krrish 3, Ek Villain among others.

He was recently seen in the popular thriller web series ‘Paatal Lok’. Born in Maharashtra’s Amravati in 1967, Basra had moved to Mumbai in 1989 to pursue his acting career.
