Weather: IMD warns of rainfall spell over Meghalaya

Meghalaya, March 29: Meghalaya weather is likely to experience an “enhanced pre-monsoon rainfall spell” for four days starting Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Shillong, informed in a statement issued here.

Under the influence of strong lower level south-westerlies, widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/thundersquall/lightning and heavy falls at isolated places are likely over Meghalaya during March 29-31 and very heavy rainfall at isolated places on March 30-31 with maximum activity during March 30 -31,” (sic) the IMD said in the statement.

Meghalaya Weather Department, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Shillong has warned of light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places, particularly in East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, and Jaintia Hills, which is very likely during March 29-31.

Very heavy rainfall at isolated places in East Khasi Hills, mainly in Sohra and its adjoining area, and East Jaintia Hills is likely on March 30 and 31,” the IMD added in the statement.
