Viral Video: Two injured in Shillong blast; terrorist outfit claims responsibility

Meghalaya, August 10: At least two persons, including a woman, were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast by militants in Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong on Tuesday.

The blast took place at around 1.30 pm in Shillong’s popular market hub in the Laitumkhrah area.

Militants belonging to outlawed outfits, Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility for the blast.

S Nongtynger, Superintendent of Police (SP), East Khasi Hills district, said, “During preliminary investigation, it was confirmed that an IED went off in the area. A shop was damaged. Several window panes of nearby buildings were also destroyed in the explosion.”

The police have cordoned off the street, and the injured persons have been admitted to the hospital, officials said.

Condemning the blast, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said further investigation is being carried out.
