Assam, Dec 14: Assam’s Darrang deputy commissioner, Dilip Kumar Borah on Monday urged the public to get their children vaccinated against tetanus and diphtheria during the immunization campaign that began in the district.
The state health department launched the immunization campaign to vaccinate children in Assam’s Darrang, in the age group of 10-11years and 16-17 years against the two diseases.
“The modern vaccines are painless and there is hardly any possibility of any adverse effect occurring,” said Borah during the launch of the campaign.
The health department aims to vaccinate 40,000 children during the campaign that will continue till January 4.
Health officer, Nirmal Kumar Beria said, “This Td the vaccine is not new for children they have already taken its first dose during routine immunization after their birth.”
“The booster dose will be administered to them now,” he said.
While the Tetanus-Diptheria (Td) vaccine is usually administered to children during routine immunization programmes, the health the department has this time decided to administer it during a campaign.
The present pandemic has disrupted the routine immunization programmes in the state.
