Uttar Pradesh: Man dies by suicide after cop demands bribe to trace missing daughter

April 13: A man died by suicide in Mau Chandpur village in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. He was upset after a police officer allegedly asked him for a bribe of one lakh rupees to trace his missing 22-year-old daughter.

According to family members of 45-year-old Shishupal, it was Ramnagar police outpost in-charge Ram Ratan Singh of Uttar Pradesh police, who demanded the money from him which led to his suicide.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said the sub-inspector has been shifted from the outpost and the allegation against him of asking for a bribe is under investigation.

Ram Ratan Singh purportedly reached the site of Shishupal’s death on hearing about it and tore the suicide note when he found it. Villagers later caught hold of him and handed him over to the police.

Earlier, a first information report (FIR) regarding the abduction of Shishupal’s daughter was registered at the Aonla police station on April 9. In the FIR, Shishupal claimed that three men Banti, Mukesh, and Dinesh abducted his daughter on a bike.
