Union Minister Smriti Irani Tests Positive For COVID-19

New Delhi, 28th October: Union Minister Smriti Irani today informed that she has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Posting the news on her official Twitter account, she said –

It is rare for me to search for words while making an announcement; hence here’s me keeping it simple — I’ve tested positive for #COVID and would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest.

The 44-year-old actor-turned-politician had been actively campaigning for the Bihar elections, seeking votes for the National Democratic Alliance government in the state.

On October 24, she had addressed a rally at Gujarat’s Vadodara and Bihar’s Bikram area while on October 26, she had addressed a rally in Bodh Gaya for the Bihar Assembly election.

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, had also travelled to her Lok Sabha (LS) constituency Amethi last week and announced several projects for her constituency, which used to be a Gandhi family’s pocket borough for years until she wrested the prestigious seat from Rahul Gandhi in last year’s parliamentary polls, during the festive season.

A number of public figures including Home Minister Amit Shah, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have tested positive for the coronavirus and have since recovered.

Meanwhile, India’s coronavirus tally neared the 80-lakh mark on Wednesday with 43,893 new Covid-19 infections. India reports 43,893 new COVID-19 cases, tally stands at 79,90,322. India’s total cases surged to 79,90,322 on Wednesday, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW)
