Arunachal, Feb 2: The Imphal Smart City Limited (ISCL), recently carried out a city-wide survey as part of the ‘Streets for People Challenge’ to identify the challenges faced by pedestrians in Imphal city.
During the survey, it was noted that 90 percent of the respondents wanted places to sit, rest, socialize, and exercise in the booming city.
Findings also showed that 80 percent of respondents wanted a public park within 15 minutes of walking distance, and 87 percent voted for wider footpaths.
About 70 percent of the people said that they did not feel safe while walking in the streets of Imphal.
‘Streets for People Challenge’ is an initiative in Imphal for Smart Cities Mission under the Ministry of Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
The survey aims to include its citizens in the urban development process and to ensure participatory planning in developing the city infrastructure.
