Sonapur: 20 students test COVID-19 positive at Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education in Assam

Assam, April 8: After 20 students at Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Sonapur (LNIPE) tested positive for COVID-19, the area has been declared as a containment zone.

An order issued by District Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan Biswajit Pegu, says, “In the interest of the maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus amongst the teaching staff and students, the entire area of the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education premises Sonapur, is declared as containment zone for the next 14 days w.e.f. today.” The order is effective from April 8 till April 21.

The Circle Officer at Sonapur Revenue Circle has been directed to seal the area immediately.

Any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified containment zone are barred for the next seven days. Further, any movement of any unauthorized individual and vehicle within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect.

Any violation of the order will attract action under the provision of the “Assam COVID-19 Regulation, 2020”, “Disaster Management Act, 2005”, “The Epidemic Disease Act, 1897” and other relevant laws, said the order.

This comes to light on a day when Assam recorded 195 new cases of COVID-19 infection, pushing the coronavirus tally in the state to 2,19,027.
