Sikkim Govt issues new guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID19

Sikkim, 1st November: Sikkim Govt has issued new guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19.  With the rising case of Coronavirus in small Himalayan State, the state which saw ‘Zero’ case until June 2020 while the rest of the nation was grilled under COVID19.

Sikkim Govt has been regulating series of formula to avoid transmission in the state by invoking several rules and regulations due to which to some extent state which shares a border with West Bengal is able to curtail transmission however movement of people has resulted in popping up cases which are undeniable when the nation just surpassed 9.5 Million case as on 30 Nov.

Weekend restrictions on vehicular movement based on odd-even format and night curfew have been imposed as per the new Covid containment guidelines issued by the State government.

On Saturdays, only those vehicles including two-wheelers bearing registration numbers ending with even digits would be allowed to ply within the State. Vehicles with registration numbers ending with an odd digit are allowed to ply on Sundays.

The restriction applies to private cars, taxis, government vehicles, and two-wheelers. Only government/emergency vehicles on duty are exempted. However, commercial goods vehicles including Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) are allowed to ply without any restriction every day.

Restrictions have also been imposed on the movement of vehicles and persons at night.

There shall be no movement of vehicles and persons after 9 pm till 6 am every day except for emergency purposes. The district police shall ensure strict compliance. This shall, however, not apply to commercial goods vehicles including LCVs and vehicles on emergency duty,” the guidelines from the Home department states.

All commercial establishments, including restaurants, bars, and nightclubs have been directed to close by 9 pm daily.

State government offices would continue to remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays till further orders. The departmental heads have been directed to arrange for the sanitization of their offices during this period.

As in the previous guidelines, all functions and congregations would be allowed with a maximum of 50% of the seating capacity of 50 persons in closed spaces. Cinema halls and theatres can operate with 50% capacity.

The guidelines are effective from December 1 to 31 or till further orders.
