Restrictions imposed on celebrations of Mahalaya and Vishwakarma Puja in Tripura

Tripura, September 17: Keeping in mind the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases in the state, the Tripura government has imposed a number of restrictions for Mahalaya and Vishwakarma puja celebration which falls on the same day on September 17 this year.

Addressing the media, IPS Sashvat Kumar of Tripura Police informed that any form of mass gathering or assemblage shall be strictly prohibited in and around the capital city of Agartala and especially in the parks and roadsides.

He further informed that the order issued by the Chief Secretary of Tripura Government previously also restricts people from gathering in public in the dawn hours on Thursday, when the main rituals of Mahalaya are carried out.

He also said that certain restrictions are also imposed for the Vishwakarma puja celebration which falls on the same day as Mahalaya.

He clarified that mass gathering is strictly prohibited during the puja celebration and following of norms of COVID-19 pandemic including social distancing and wearing of masks shall be compulsory.

Unnecessary traffic movement except movement for essential services shall be checked from morning onwards and the ongoing night curfew from 08:00 PM onwards shall be in force on September 17, he said.

He said that police shall take stringent measures as the law demands in case of any violation of government and health protocols.
