Kolkata, Jan 22: West Bengal minister Rajib Banerjee resigned from the Mamata Banerjee cabinet on Friday. Rajib Banerjee was in charge of the forest department in the Bengal government.

His resignation letter reads, “It has been a great honor and privilege to serve the people of West Bengal. I heartily convey my gratitude for getting this opportunity.”

Rajib Banerjee tweet along with the resignation, “This is to inform you that I am resigning as the Minister in Charge, Department of Forest, West Bengal from today.”

 

After submitting his resignation, Rajib Banerjee met Governor Jagdeep Dhankar who later accepted his resignation as a cabinet minister.

A day earlier, Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh, who was known to be close to the TMC leadership and particularly Mamata Banerjee, sparked rumors of joining BJP ahead of the Bengal election amid the growing number of party leaders who are deflecting to the saffron party.

Rudranil Ghosh had met BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and actress Rimjhim Mitra, also a member of the saffron party, at a social function in south Kolkata on Wednesday night.

Two days ago, former TMC leader Arindam Bhattacharya joined the BJP. The Nadia leader arrived in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and met Kailash Vijayvargiya before joining BJP.

Suvendu Adhikari, a former TMC heavyweight and a close confidante of Mamata Banerjee, recently joined the BJP at a mega rally in Bengal and was inducted by Amit Shah, Kailash Vijayvargiya, and other BJP bosses.

Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari who was Mamata’s key man behind the Nandigram movement that catapulted her to power has accepted Mamata Banerjee’s challenge to contest from the Nandigram assembly constituency for the upcoming election.
