Mizoram, Jan 22: Elections to the 19-ward Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be on February 16, 2021, Mizoram State Election Commissioner Laima Chozah said on Friday.
Announcing the poll date, Laima Chozah said that the Election Model Code of Conduct was in place from today in the jurisdiction of the Aizawl Municipal Council area.
The last date of filing nominations was fixed on 28th January 2021 and the last date of withdrawal on 1st February 2021. Counting of votes would be undertaken on 18th February 2021.
Six of the 19 wards of the AMC are reserved for women. He said that there are 48 new polling stations with overall 274 polling stations where polling would be conducted with EVM.
Laima Chozah said that new Polling stations have been set up due to Covid-19 SOP. He said that the state has arranged every polling station to be less than 1000 people due to the pandemic.
The number of voters in the AMC is 2,18,870. Female voters outnumbered male voters by 15,520 votes. He said that the Election Commission appointed 2 Election Observer for the upcoming AMC election.
Laima Chozah said that the State Election Commission will conduct AMC polls following State SOP’s made on January 17.
