One Assam Rifles personnel injured and Six militants killed in an encounter in Karbi Anglong

Assam, May 23: Six Dima Hasao National Liberation Army (DNLA) terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong district during the early hours of Sunday in a joint operation by Assam Police and Assam Rifles.

One Assam Rifles personnel was injured in the encounter and is said to be out of danger.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was launched in the district by a team of police officers and Assam Rifles personnel, led by West Karbi Anglong Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prakash Sonowal, he said.

Six cadres were killed during the encounter,” the source said, adding, “A cache of weapons was also recovered from them.”

An exchange of fire ensued between the security personnel and the militants, following which six members of the outlawed outfit were gunned down in the Michibailung area, the officer said.

The recoveries from the Karbi encounter include two AK series rifles, one 303 rifle, and four pistols, live rounds of ammunition among others.
