Nagaland: ‘Green Library’ in Kohima

Kohima, March 28: The Kohima Forest Division Nagaland, has launched the “Green Box” initiative on Friday at the office of the Principal Chief conservator of Forest (PCCI) in Kohima with the hope of creating a green library across the district.

Divisional forest officer (DFO) Rajkumar M, IFS said that under the initiative, 51 books based on environment conservation, wildlife and climate change were distributed to three villages.

The three villages were selected from the three ranges in the district— Zhadima Village under Chiephobozou range, Jakhama village under Kohima range, and Sendenyu village under Tseminyu range.

The DFO further informed that the initiative is undertaken under the pilot project “Project Future” which started in April last year. Other activities under the project included online competition, video lessons, setting up of signages in Kohima along with the police.

All boxes, containing both new and used books, were donated by the department. He expressed hope that villages in Nagaland like Sendenyu which does not have a library will initiate a new green library.

The DFO said that a person who personally learns through books will spread and share the same message to others. “I feel that is a more impactful way,” he added.

While other initiatives such as awareness campaigns and so on are conducted to sensitise the public, he said that the idea of donating books is initiated with the hope to create a very positive impact as reading is something personal to an individual.
