Assam, 11th November: MP Biswajit Daimary resigned from his designation as the working president of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Wednesday. He said, “Having been a member of the BPF from the date of party’s inception, it is now time for me to move on,” Daimary said.

He formally stated his decision through a letter addressed to the president of BPF, Hagrama Mohilary. In the letter he said, “While my purposes remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within the party”.

With this coming just ahead of the upcoming Bodoland elections, that is likely to take place in the first part of December this year, the MP Biswajit Daimary has also shown interest to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said, “I want to work broadly, and therefore I am likely to join a national party in the future”.

He has however not yet announced his departure from the party as still continues to be a sitting Rajya Sabha MP and has cited legal issues. He said, “I have relieved the party to take decisions on their own as now I’m only a party worker and accordingly as per procedure I would leave the party keeping in mind the allied parties like AGP and the BJP which have supported election to the Rajya Sabha”.

Although, while addressing media in Guwahati, he announced that he would resign from the Rajya Sabha once he completes the responsibilities he undertook as an MP.
