Mizoram reports 235 new COVID cases, 2 more death reported

Mizoram, June 2: Mizoram reported 235 fresh COVID 19 cases, raising the coronavirus tally to 12,634, while the death toll climbed to 44 with two more fatalities, officials said on Wednesday.

Mizoram now has 3,243 active COVID cases, and 9,347 people have recovered from the disease including 133 people on Tuesday.

The new cases were detected after testing 3,752 samples in the last 24 hours registering an infection rate of 6.26 per cent.

Mizoram has so far tested 3,97,433 samples for COVID-19.

Aizawl district registered the highest number of 164 new infections, followed by Lawngtlai (20), (18) each from Lunglei and Kolasib district, (5) each from Serchhip and Khawzawl district, Siaha district (3) and (1) each from Champhai and Mamit districts, he said.

Of the 235 patients, 139 have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the remaining 96 patients were asymptomatic.

Six patients have travel history, and the remaining 229 patients were found to have locally contracted the infection, the official said.

According to State Immunisation Officer Lalzawmi, a total of 2,59,498 people have been vaccinated of which 52,121 people have received both doses of the vaccine till Tuesday.
