Aizawl, August 16: As the total number of COVID positive cases in Sikkim rise to 1080, Mizoram becomes the only state in the country to have a COVID tally of less than 1000.

Besides Lakshadweep, which continues to be COVID free, Mizoram has the lowest numbers. After Saturday’s highest single-day spike of 64 new cases, the state’s caseload has risen to 777.

50 cases have been reported from the Mizoram capital Aizawl out of which 44 are returnees to the state and 6 have been found positive for coronavirus after contact tracing. The rest 14 are from Kolasib district, all truck drivers and handymen.

7 Assam Rifle personnel and 1 BSF jawan recovered and were discharged on Saturday with the total number of recoveries rising to 356.

Out of the total 777 cases, 421 are active cases. No deaths have been reported as of now.

The Mizoram government has also issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for social gatherings after a meeting chaired by chief minister, Zoramthanga with top officials, NGOs, churches and doctors.

Marriage ceremonies, funerals or memorial stone election programmes can not have more than 50 attendees.

Funerals should include only close relatives, as minimal as possible and only two representatives of an association or union can attend the ceremony. It should take place either at a church, at the Young Mizo Association hall or any other community hall in the locality.

Arrangements will be made by the local church or the Young Mizo Association (YMA) of that locality.

Old people and people with morbidities will not be allowed to attend funerals.

The order prohibited “Zaikhawm“, a congregational singing to mourn a death or to celebrate an event in a marriage.

The attendees should wear a face mask and their names, addresses and mobile numbers will be recorded by each village or local level task force or YMA.
