Ranchi, June 14: A minor girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather in Ranchi, police said on Monday. A native of Gumla, was booked based on the complaint filed by the victim.

The police said they are on the lookout for the accused who is absconding after being named in the case. The incident came to light when the minor girl told her grandmother about the alleged crime.

The girl had been living with her maternal grandmother for two months. On Sunday, the accused reached her grandmother’s home and took her out on the pretext of buying her a cold drink. However, he started driving towards Namkum Road, the girl told the police. When she protested, the accused said he had some work ahead, after which he would buy her a cold drink.

The accused allegedly then took the minor girl to a popular spot on the outskirts of Ranchi, Dassam Falls where he raped her. He also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she revealed the ordeal to anyone before he dropped her home.

The minor told her grandmother of what had happened, after which the family lodged a complaint with the police. A medical examination of the girl was also done.

Last week, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district.

The 31-year-old accused, a native of Dongargarh, was arrested on Friday based on the complaint of the victim’s elder sister.

“As per the complaint, the accused was sexually exploiting the girl for the last three years. The accused used to threaten her with dire consequences if she revealed the ordeal to anyone. The victim’s 16-year-old sister recently informed police after which the man was held for rape and criminal intimidation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and IPC provisions,” he said.
