Coronavirus: Meghalaya CM suggested Economic Task Force to PM Modi.

Guwahati, April 27: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma suggested Economic Task Force to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by all the states be setup for exchange of ideas and possible solutions to initiate economic activities by adhering to necessary precautionary protocols.

In the video conference with Prime Minister Modi, the Meghalaya Chief Minister said that – “There is an economic State to State dependence. The establishment of an economic task force will help States and its adjoining neighbors to a large extent in devising practical measures to revive the economy.”

Talking about the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, Conrad Sangma told the Prime Minister that, the use of technology has become more important and we should prepare ourselves for the change by integrating technology in governance, healthcare, and business.

He also suggested Prime Minister Modi on the Meghalaya model of ‘Rapid Response System’, wherein within a specified time frame response is initiated by health, administration, and police on the detection of new COVID-19 cases.

“The rapid response system will enable the government to work at micro level, like the panchayat institutions and prepare us for any such situation that may arise in future,” Conrad Sangma said.

He suggested that the response of different stakeholders should be specified in the form of standard operating procedures (SoPs), who can respond immediately within 60 minutes.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also said that the lockdown in the state will continue post-May 3 with relaxation in non-COVID-19 affected districts.

Meghalaya has reported 12 positive cases for COVID-19 and the first patient died.
