Kerala: Married woman gang-raped, brutalized with beer bottles

Kerala, July 12: A 40-year-old woman from Kerala was allegedly gang-raped and brutalized by a group of men in Kerala. The incident took place on June 30, when the woman and her husband were on a pilgrimage to the famous hill shrine of Palani in Tamil Nadu.

Reportedly, the couple had been staying at a lodge in the Palani area of the Dindigul district when the incident took place. While the director-general of police (DGP) said that the woman was gang-raped, the Tamil Nadu Police denied receiving any such complaint.

The woman and her husband, who is from Tamil Nadu, have been staying in Kannur due to their jobs.

As per the initial probe, the woman and her husband were on a pilgrimage to Palani. During this time, the woman’s husband stepped out to get food and a group of men – including the manager of the lodge – allegedly gang-raped her. The accused allegedly tortured the woman and inserted beer bottles in her private parts.

When the woman’s husband returned to the lodge, he was allegedly beaten up by the accused, media reported. Thalassery Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Moosa Vallikadan, who is the investigation officer of the case said, “I have gone through the medical report at the Government Medical College, Kannur, but on the basis of that, there are no injuries as reported by the woman.”

As the alleged incident had taken place on June 20, according to the complainants, the wounds could have healed also.

The woman also alleged that she had approached the cops in Kannur but no action was taken by them. Police officials stated that the woman is undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College hospital in Pariyaram.
