I-League: Aizawl FC team leaves Mizoram for Bengal

Aizwal, Dec 26: The 39-man squad including the coaching staff of Aizawl FC left Mizoram on Saturday for the upcoming season of the I-League which is going to be held in West Bengal.

According to sources, Aizawl FC will face RoundGlass Punjab FC at the Kalyani Municipal Stadium on January 9, 2021. Aizawl FC released the names of the full squad of the team for the upcoming season of the I-League.

As per the information, the 30-man squad of the team includes three foreigners while the rest of the squad are from Mizoram. Aizawl FC has retained Alfred Jaryan and Richard Kassaga from the squad played in the last season.

The club has signed Princewill Emeka Olariche from Nigeria. In the last season, Emeka played for TRAU FC and scored three goals in 15 appearances in the I-League.

Stanley Rozario has been retained as the coach of the team. Aizawl FC won the I-League title in the 2016-17 season. Rozario was infected by Covid19, but he has completely recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, RoundGlass Punjab Football Club coach Curtis Fleming labelled the tournament as “a sprint, not a marathon” days before starting the tournament against Aizawl Football Club.

During the I-League virtual media day on Thursday, Fleming said, “All are special. Every game will bring in new challenges. Mohammedan is famous for its rich legacy.”

The northeastern clubs always surprise you with their exciting players. It’s going to be a terrific league. We’ll treat everyone with the same respect. This (I-League) is going to be a sprint, not a marathon,” he added.
