Assam, Jan 5: Assam government is committed to empowering the visually impaired individuals by providing them with every possible scope of developing themselves, said state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
As per the minister, the Assam government provides braille books, uniforms, smartphones, recorders, and other aids to such visually challenged students so that their education remains unhindered.
“On #BrailleDay, GoA commits to empower visually challenged students by all possible means so that they can make their dreams come true,” Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.
“Braille books, uniforms, smartphones, recorder, etc are being provided to such students for their unhindered academic & personal growth,” he tweeted.

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) had introduced braille question papers for the first time in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams held in 2019.
This was done to solve the difficulty faced by the visually impaired students who sat for the board exams.
In absence of braille question papers, these students had to take the help of scribes to write their answer scripts.
A total of 13 such students had appeared in the HSLC exams that year.
