Mizoram, April 2: Good Friday was observed in all parts of the Christian-dominated Mizoram with religious fervour and enthusiasm to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Last year Good Friday was observed within close door due to the nation-wide lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of Covid-19.
However, the festival was publicly celebrated although the Mizoram government had asked everyone to adhere to Covid-19 protocols in view of the second wave of the pandemic wreaking in many states in India.
All government offices, educational institutions, and commercial banks remained closed as the Mizoram government had declared a public holiday to mark the sanctity of the day.
Special church services were held in churches of different Christian denominations, while Roman Catholic Church held a mass and Good Friday procession in their respective local churches to mark the occasion.

Apart from worship services, Holy Communion was also organized by different churches to adhere to the commandment of Jesus, who instructed his disciple to do it just a night before his crucifixion.
However, congregational service is known as Zaikhawm, which forms an integral part of the Good Friday celebration, could not be held due to Covid-19 protocols in Mizoram.
In some rural villages, community feasts were organized to observe the crucifixion of Christ.
