Former Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and his wife test covid positive

Bengal, May 19: Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and his wife Meera Bhattacharya has tested positive for coronavirus.

Meera Bhattacharya has taken to Woodland hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday for treatment. She was suffering from a breathing problem, her oxygen saturation was 84. On other hand, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya is in home isolation with oxygen support.

Last year, The 76-year-old politician, who has been suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other age-related ailments for quite some time now, was admitted to the hospital on December 9 as his breathing problems aggravated.

Bhattacharya, who was the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011, has been suffering from COPD and other old age-related ailments for quite some time. He has been away from public life for the past few years due to his health.

He had stepped down from the CPI(M)’s politburo and the central committee in 2015 and gave up membership of the state secretariat in 2018.
