Northeast, 6 Dec: The ongoing economic blockade on the Mariani-Mokokchung road on the Assam Nagaland border to be lifted said government sources.
A high-level meeting between Assam chief minister, Sarbananada Sonowal and Nagaland minister in Guwahati decided that both governments would initiate measures to lift the blockades on either side of the border.
Various organizations including the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti had imposed an economic blockade on November 15 at the Mariani-Mokokchung road.
They were protesting against illegal encroachment inside the Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest by the Nagaland government.
The Nagaland administration had reportedly constructed a structure within the Dissoi Valley Reserve Forest under Mariani Range of the Jorhat Forest division and stationed Nagaland police at the site.
Some organizations from Nagaland also reportedly imposed the blockade on their side in retaliation.
While agreeing to adopt necessary initiatives to lift the blockade, the ministers of both states also appealed to the public to refrain from indulging any act that may that disrupt peace in the inter-state border areas.
The meeting also focused on strengthening the ties between the two neighbouring states and solving all issues through mutual cooperation and peaceful dialogue in an amicable manner, a report stated.
