Assam CM

Guwahati, July 07: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday make a big statement while addressing an event where he unveiled a statue of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Barpeta Road on his 120th birth anniversary.

Assam CM said that DCs will listen only to ministers and not to MLAs till his government is in place.

“The work of the MLA is to interpret the law in the Assembly. To look after the Executive Legislative Judiciary. The work of the minister is to convert that law. The MLA does not decide what happens in a BDO or an SDO, it is the work of a minister. The MLA goes to the Assembly sometimes but comes back empty-handed. This is the reality. It is not written somewhere. The house will be given by the MLA but the minister will decide who gets the house right? CPM MLA decides in the Assembly but the minister passes the budget decides that a road will be built, a 1000km road,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sarma said, “Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, a great lover of Assam, introduced the study of Assamese language in Calcutta University where he became the youngest VC at the age of 33. We all in Assam should know about his contribution to the promotion of the Assamese language.”

The chief minister also asserted Mookerjee’s role in saving Assam from merging with East Pakistan.
