Darjeeling Initiative and Edward Foundation’s ‘Project CARE’ saving live in hills

Darjeeling, May 20: As the second wave of coronavirus infection surge in the hills, help is pouring from all corners for Darjeeling as seen in the case of ‘Project CARE’ where people are selflessly contributing to save the lives of Covid patients here in every way possible.

Edwards Foundation and Darjeeling Initiative have come together to help everyone in and around Darjeeling to fight Covid-19. They are providing medical assistance and other forms of support related to Covid with stress on oxygen concentrators.

Masks, sanitisers, and PPE kits inboxes are left by anonymous donors to support the initiative. At least 30 people have turned up to assist Project CARE as volunteers.

Project CARE aims to have 100 oxygen concentrators more as it wants to expand its Covid assistance to Kurseong, Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Mirik areas. So far 15 oxygen concentrators have been installed by the group, with another 10 coming in a week’s time.

The group is also providing food and oximeters to Covid patient in house isolation along with support like PPE kits, medicines and tele – counselling, and sanitization of their homes.

They have tied up with few hotels here to provide safe homes and meals for nurses and staff of the government Covid ward who cannot go home and need isolation.

Project CARE is also providing ambulances for those in need.
