‘Cut Assam from India’ statement : Assam police registered a case against Sharjeel Imam

Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam government has registered a sedition case against Shaheen Bagh protests main organizer Sharjeel Imam for his ‘cut Assam from India’ statement.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, Assam police has already registered a case against Sharjeel Imam, who is the main organizer of Shaheen Bagh protests.

“The state government has taken cognizance of this seditious statement and has decided to register a case against him,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Guwahati city police crime branch has registered a case (case no 1/2020) against Sharjeel Imam under sections of 13(1)/18 of UAPA and 153 (A), 153 (B), 124 of IPC.

The Assam minister also said that, it is the first time that somebody protesting against Hindu, Sikh, Christian people.

The Assam minister said that, the state government is going to pursue the case and bring the person to law so that he can be punished in accordance to the law.

“The entire agitation whether it is Shaheen Bagh or rest of India, these has been fan out by certain members of certain community who wants to destroy India, who wants to create another Pakistan out of India. So we have to remain vigilant. The people of Assam and North East will not allow anybody to take or create Assam out of India. Assam is an integral part of India. Nobody has the authority and right to say that Assam will be cut out of India,” the Assam minister said.
