COVID-19 cases in Assam double in 13 days, state tally surges to 11736

Guwahati, July 6: Assam has witnessed a sharp spike in the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases as the state has registered 735 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours.

With the new cases, the state tally for the novel Coronavirus has surged to 11736.

Out of the new cases, 552 positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Guwahati city alone.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Guwahati city has entered into COVID-19 pandemic.

In last 24 hours, the state has reported 735 COVID-19 positive cases and out of these 552 cases have been reported from Guwahati city,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He tweeted – “735 new #COVID+ cases detected today, out of which 552 from Guwahati City alone.

On the other hand, the positive cases for COVID-19 in the state have doubled in just 9 days.

The state had registered 5006 positive cases for COVID-19 on June 19 and the cases were gone up to 5853 on June 22.

According to the Assam state Health department, the first COVID-19 case was detected in the state on March 31 and it took 48 days to reach 100 positive cases from the day detection of the first case.

On the other hand, the state has reported 4244 positive cases for the deadly virus within a week.
