Couple gets married on SpiceJet flight, COVID protocols flouted

Tamil Nadu, May 24: At a time when people are forced to postpone their weddings, all thanks to the restrictions imposed in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, a couple from Madurai booked a SpiceJet flight and got married when the plane was above the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Tamil Nadu.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday ordered strict action after a picture went viral of a couple exchanging vows onboard a chartered SpiceJet aircraft.

Dakshina and Rakesh got married on a SpiceJet flight which was attended by around 160 people who were also boarded on the plane.

Meanwhile, the airport director said that a flight was booked from Madurai, however, the authorities were not informed about any marriage ceremony.

A SpiceJet chartered flight was booked yesterday from Madurai. Airport Authority officials unaware of the mid-air marriage ceremony,” the airport director said.

The video of the unique marriage ceremony has gone viral on social media. In the video, the groom and the bride were seen tying the knot and the friends and relatives were seen showering petals on them.

Notably, as per the lockdown norms, the Tamil Nadu government has fixed the maximum number of people at weddings at 50.

Meanwhile, in the video, it is clearly seen the attendees violating the COVID protocols. Nobody was seen wearing masks or adhering to social distancing norms.
