Congress leaders in Mizoram come forward to help those affected by COVID-19

June 18, 2020: As Mizoram continues to fight coronavirus, Congress leaders have come forward to assist the government which in turn will benefit the poor and affected.

Dr Lalmalsawma Nghaka, Zodintluanga Ralte and Rosiamngheta, the three Congress leaders have contributed largely by hiring technicians and providing ambulance vans to cope with the shortages.

The state Congress party leader Zodintluanga Ralte donated an ambulance van to the Lunglei Civil Hospital as the state government is struggling with the lack of ambulance vans amid the pandemic.

He has also said that if the government allows, he will buy and donate a full set of RT-PCR machines so that they can be installed in COVID-19 hospitals.

On Tuesday, Rosiamngheta, a councillor in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation(AMC) donated three ambulances to three areas namely Electric Veng, Chanmari and Zarkawt within the ward V of AMC to help them.

He said that he was just giving the people back their money and it was not done for recognition. He wanted the locality to utilise the ambulances for community service especially to help the needy and not for commercial purposes since the ambulances were bought with the help of public money.

He further added, “People have been facing enormous problems due to the lack of ambulance during the coronavirus induced lockdown.”

He also said, “I donated the ambulance vans to the localities out of the property tax return, which I saved during the past two years. Each councillor used to receive Rs 10 lakh of property tax return every year.”

Rosiamngheta has previously installed water barrels at many places in the initial phase of the pandemic.

The barrels are placed at quarantine centres with the Ward V of AMC.

To overcome the struggle of lack of manpower, the Congress youth wing president, DR Lalmalsawma Nghaka has not only donated money for the cause but also hired two technicians named Lalrinengi and Gospel Hmingduhawmi at Zoram Medical College to assist the government.
