Congress delegation meets President Kovind, demands sacking of Manipur Government

Manipur, March 25: Congress escalated its agitation against the non-implementation of the Manipur HC order disqualifying 12 MLAs for holding offices of profit.

A Congress delegation comprising AICC and state Congress representatives met President Ram Nath Kovind and sought the recall of Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla, accusing her of neither implementing the high court order nor acting on the subsequent report the Election Commission submitted to her on the demand of the party.

Congress has been maintaining that the HC order was not being implemented for three months only because the disqualification of 12 MLAs – for holding offices of parliamentary secretaries – would reduce the N Biren Singh-led BJP state government to a minority in the assembly.

A number of opposition parties jointly condemned the manner in which the Bihar government “pushed through the draconian Bihar Special Armed Police Bill, 2021” and the way the protesting opposition leaders were “ruthlessly beaten up”.

Given this bill blatantly violates the rule of law and undermines human rights, opposition members raised their voices unitedly against this ‘black bill’ on the floor of the House,” said a statement by some MPs belonging to Congress, RJD, Sena, TRS, and others.
