Assam-Mizoram border issues

Northeast, 6th November: Central paramilitary forces deployed to solve the Assam-Mizoram border issues. The forces of the army would be deployed in the three districts of Barakghati, which became a resting place. In a region of Assam-Mizoram border attached to Lailapur of Kakht Jill, this Central Army personnel will be deployed where there will be issues and in this area, BOP will be constructed

According to the sources, members of the Young Mizo Association and local Mizo residents have allegedly gathered often at the disputed sites, shouting slogans against the Assam Government.

It has been reported that the copies of the peace agreement that was signed at the joint meeting held between the Karimganj district administration and the Mamit district administration on October 31 at the Ichabil tea garden were burnt by the Young Mizo Association members in Aizawl.

State Chief Secretary of Assam, Jishnu Baruah and state police chief, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta visited the Company 2 of Central Army Bahini of Silchar on Thursday after returning to visit Assam-Mizoram border.

A high-level meeting between the deputy commissioners of Assam’s Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts was held on Wednesday in Silchar. These three districts share a border with Kolasib, Mamit and Aizawl districts of Mizoram. Senior Assam Police and forest officials discussed the various options that could be available for a “peaceful solution” to the current imbroglio.

We cannot choose our neighbours. We will have to live peacefully with them, but we also cannot let anyone lay claim on our land. We know it is our area as per the constitutional boundary. We have no two opinions on that,” said Baruah to the media.
