Manipur, 12th November: Security forces seized at least 72 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 287 crore in Manipur’s Thoubal district. The seizure was made during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police.

Based on the input by the intelligence department, a large consignment of drugs hidden in the area awaiting distribution to various parts of the country, multiple teams were deployed on the intervening night of November 10 and 11.

“In a painstaking search undertaken in difficult terrain in the hours of darkness, three concealed bags containing brown sugar were recovered in the early hours of November 11. The market value of the narcotics recovered is assessed to be over Rs 287 crores,” the statement read.

On October 30, police recovered 435.945 kg of suspected brown sugar, 438 liters of morphine liquid, and other items from the Thobal Moijing Awang Leikai area in Thoubal district.
