BJP protests across North Bengal over MLA death

The BJP leadership have staged protests across six districts of North Bengal including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Dinajpur, Malda, and Siliguri over the death of a BJP MLA on July 13th.

Although the BJP leadership called for a 12-hour silent protest on Monday, early on Tuesday morning the protests aggravated into violence affecting North Bengal.

Whereas in some places public vehicles are not plying, in some other shops and markets are closed, buses are attacked and ransacked.

Although BJP has alleged that 60-year-old Debendranath Roy has been killed, the police have confirmed that death has been by suicide and a suicide note has been found in his pocket with 2 names written on it.

The police is investigating the case. The body of the man was found hanging from his shop in Hematabad, 1 km away from his residence in North Dinajpur district.

Last year he had joined the BJP from CPI(M). His death has created extreme political fight across Bengal. Police have been deployed in large numbers across the six districts to keep the situation under control.

The BJP leadership has further informed that it will agitate in front of police stations on Wednesday.

Many BJP workers have been arrested till now in the affected districts with alleged violence.
