Mizoram, Feb 27: The Mizoram Maintenance of Household Registers Bill, 2019, which seeks to detect foreigner in the state is still pending with the Centre for approval, chief minister Zoramthanga informed the state legislature on Friday.
He said that the President of India is yet to give assent to the bill to detect foreigner.
Zoramthanga, who also holds the General Administration portfolio, said that the state government is making efforts to ensure that the bill is enacted and enforceable in the state.
The Mizoram Maintenance of Household Registers Bill, 2019 was passed by the state legislature on 18 March 2019.
Initially, the bill was sent to the state governor, who again referred it to the President for approval.
Zoramthanga, who introduced the bill, had said that the bill after its enactment, would help the state government in identifying foreigners and genuine residents of the state.
He had said that the proposed legislation would also check the influx of illegal immigrants from neighbouring countries.

The bill also seeks to provide credible individual identification systems and prevent the usurpation of benefits of development schemes by those who are not entitled.
Under the proposed act, the state government will appoint the president of every village council and secretary of every local council or town committee as registering authority for the village or the municipal area concerned for the purpose.
The registering authority will compile two distinct formats or registers- one for citizen residents of the villages/area/town (RegisterA) and another for non-citizen residents of the villages/area/town (Register-B).
