Assam Baghjan oil field catches fire:

Guwahati, June 9: A massive fire took place in the gas well of Baghjan oil field in Assam Tinsukia district, following a blast on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the blast occurred at a time when the experts and engineers of Oil India Limited were engaged to control the gas and oil emission continued at the site after the blowout of a gas well in the oil field managed by Oil India Limited on May 27.

The incident has created more panic among the local people.

A three-member expert team from Singapore had also arrived at the site on Monday to control the situation and the experts discussed with the Oil India Limited and ONGC teams about the situation.

Meanwhile, several fire tenders have rushed to the spot and the top officials of the district administration, Oil India Limited also rushed to the site.

Baghjan – about 43 km away from Tinsukia town where the gas well blow out occurred on May 27 – is close to Maguri-Motapung wetlands – just one kilometre from the oil field where the blow out at one of the OIL Rigs at OIL Well no 5 Baghjan in the Motapung Maguri Beel area happened.

As many as 1610 families have been evacuated from the site to relief camps.

Natural gas, condensed oil leaking is also continued and all the nearby areas have badly affected.

Numbers of fish, Gangetic dolphin, birds and many domestic cattle had also died in the area following a blow out of the gas well.

Locals had found the carcass of Gangetic dolphin, numbers of fish in a lake close to Baghjan oil field.
