Myanmar border, May 22: Jawan of 19 Assam Rifles was reportedly martyred while two others injured in an encounter near the India-Myanmar border, around 5 km from border post number 172, in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Rifleman Avatar Chakma.

According to a source, the encounter took place at a general area 8-9 km from Longvi village under Nampong circle in Arunachal Pradesh.

As per the source, “A column of Assam Rifles was launched to carry out an operation. Around 9 am, the soldiers came under heavy firing in which a rifleman died due to bullet injuries.”

The injured, identified as Rifleman Bablu and Rifleman Baldev, have been airlifted and taken to the army hospital,” the source added.

Confirming the encounter, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo said that the operation is underway, hence, details cannot be shared at this point in time.

According to another source, the role of the Himalayan group of the militant outfit National Socialist Council of Nagalim (K-YA) led by commander SS Major Makam Hacheng is behind the ambush.

The injured soldiers are said to be out of danger. In October last year, militants attacked a convoy of 19 Assam Rifles near the Myanmar border, Senmo village on Manmao Road in Arunachal’s Changlang district killing two soldiers on the spot beside injuring others.
