Assam registers its youngest COVID-19 positive case, state tally surges to 97:

Guwahati, May 17: Assam registers its youngest COVID-19 positive case on Sunday, after a 9-year-old boy tested positive in Jorhat district.

The 9-year-old boy who returned from Delhi recently was tested positive for COVID-19 at Jorhat Medical College Hospital.

On the other hand, a 28-year-old person from Cachar district was also tested positive for COVID-19 at Silchar Medical College Hospital.

Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the person hailing from Cachar district was returned to the state from Chennai recently.

With the two new cases, the state tally now surges to 97.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted – “A 28-year person from Cachar dist, who arrived from Chennai yesterday, has tested #COVID +. He is now under treatment at Silchar Medical College & Hospital. Total cases 97.”

The state has so far 97 COVID-19 positive cases including 36 cases from Kamrup (Metro), 12 cases from Cachar district, nine cases from Golaghat district, six cases each from Morigaon, Goalpara districts, five cases each from Dhubri, Bongaigaon districts, four cases each from Nalbari, Jorhat district, two cases each from Karimganj and Kamrup districts and one each from South Salmara, Lakhimpur, Hailakandi, Sonitpur, Sivasagar and Kokrajhar district.

Two COVID-19 patients died and 41 patients were discharged from hospitals.

The state has now 52 active COVID-19 positive cases.
