With 936 new cases Assam COVID-19 tally surges to 15536, death toll increases to 35

Guwahati, July 11: Eight more persons died in Assam due to COVID-19 in last 24 hours taking the death tally in the state to 35.

According to the reports, all eight COVID-19 patients died in Guwahati.

While seven patients died due to the deadly virus at Guwahati Medical College Hospital, one died at COVID care canter set up at IIT, Guwahati.

On the other hand, Assam lost its first policeman to the novel Coronavirus.

53-year-old Hareswar Nath of the Assam Police’s 16 IR Battalion died on Friday due to COVID-19.

The police personnel tested positive for the new virus on July 7 and he was admitted at COVID care centre set up at IIT, Guwahati.

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that – “With a heavy heart I inform you that Shri Hareswar Nath, 53 years old, a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to COVID 19 at IITG COVID care centre. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed.

More than 400 police personnel in the state have tested positive for COVID-19.

On the other hand, Assam has reported 936 new positive cases for COVID-19 in last 24 hours and with the new cases, the state tally has now increased to 15536.

Out of the fresh cases, 521 cases have been registered in Guwahati city alone.
