Assam, March 25: 20-year-old Rahul Pareek has created a portrait of Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma using Chinese e-waste. The young boy from Dhubri wanted to present this art to the minister ahead of assembly polls in the state.
Parrek took almost one month to create this artwork. “It’s been almost 1 month since I am working on this portrait of Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. I have collected all the materials from different offices. Then I have started putting all the materials on the board and remove the toxic materials (battery). Now this is the time when I would like to present this to Himanta sir,” said Rahul Pareek exclusively to NE Rising.
The young boy shared the journey and the motive behind creating this beautiful artwork and said “I work on different kinds of artworks and two national records have been registered in my name. I try to work on portraits of the people who inspire me in my life or on the martyred soldiers who lost their life for the country. I have presented my work to many of the celebrities as well like Virat Kohli, Akshay Kumar, Mithali Raj, and CM Sarbananda Sonowal.”
This portrait is made with nontoxic electronic products like Mobile phones, pen drives, etc.
“Now during the election, I have created artwork for our Minister Himanta sir. I have assembled the nontoxic electronic product to create this work. The motive behind this artwork is to salute him for his work to make Assam a digitalized state. I have used mobile phones, some parts of CPUs, pen drive, etc,” Pareek added.
This is not his first art but he gained the attention by his portrait that depicts the victory of Indian soldiers over China in August 2020.
In January 2020, he has gifted the portrait to Indian captain Virat Kohli when T20 International between India and Sri Lanka to be called off. “Virat sir was shocked to see the portrait — almost as shocked as I was to see him in real life! I asked him to take it with him but he told me moving it around would ruin it. The BCCI tweeted the video, which went viral.“

Pareek says a few days ago, he went around asking his neighbors and relatives for their old phones — once he had collected enough handsets, he set to work. Over three days, he used wires, glue, and pins to assemble the portrait together.
Pareek studies commerce at KC Das Commerce College in Dhubri and is a certificate holder in Fine Arts. He has previously made a “mechanical portrait” of Mahatma Gandhi, as well as Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal. The latter earned him a place in the India Book of Records.
In 2017, Assam boy Rahul Pareek has set an Assam record at the Assam Book of Records for making the largest portrait of legendary Indian king Agrasen Ji Maharaj. The portrait is 30 feet in height and 20 feet in width. It is made by using organic color on waste cartoon boards in 20 days at Ganesh Akhara, Dhubri, Assam.
The record was set and the event was organized and sponsored by Agarwal Yuva Parishad & Agarwal Sabha, Guwahati.
