It is a case of late delivery and we didn’t realize that the baby will weigh 5.2 kg. It is a unique case. Both mother and the baby are now well. Normally the weight of a baby in Assam is around 2.5 g to 3 kg. The 5 kg weight of a newborn is very rare. I discussed with other doctors also and they don’t find anymore newborn weighing above 5 kg baby at birth,” Dr Alam said.

This is the second child of Jaya Das and Badal Das and their first child weighed about 3.8 kg during birth.
