Arunachal, May 19: Arunachal Pradesh’s Tashi Yangjom has become the first Indian female climber to scale Mount Everest this season.
Hailing from Dirang, Yangjom scaled the summit on May 11, she is the first Indian to reach the peak this season. Having trained at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in West Kameng District’s Dirang village, she is the ninth climber from the institute to scale the highest summit in the world.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated her on Twitter, “Congratulations Ms Tashi Yangjom from Dirang for scaling Mt. Everest and becoming the first Indian lady climber to Summit Everest this Season. Regular Training at NIMAS Dirang has made her a strong mountaineer with blitzkrieg speed. She becomes the ninth climber from NIMAS to scale Everest.”

The CM said that it is one of the proud moments for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D Mishra (Retd.) said that by conquering Mount Everest, she has proved that the daughters of Arunachal Pradesh are tough, courageous, adventurous, enterprising, and meritorious.
He said that her achievement will motivate other youths of the State to excel in their chosen field. The Governor also commended the NIMAS Dirang for the accomplishment of Yangjom, who is an instructor at NIMAS.

He said that the institute has achieved its objective of spotting talented youth and facilitating them in achieving the pinnacle of mountaineering.
As per the sources, the Governor further said that Yangjom as a youth icon must now work for creating awareness against the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
She must make a clarion call to motivate the people of the State to strictly observe the protocols for protection from COVID-19, including wearing of facemask, washing hands frequently, and maintaining social distancing.
NIMAS Dirang also congratulated her, saying, “Congratulations to Tashi Yangjom for being the first Indian female climber to scale Mount Everest this season on 11 May 2021. Our sincere thanks to Honourable CM Shiri Pema Khandu Ji for always supporting NIMAS and young energetic climbers. The nation is proud of Tashis’s recent feat.”
