Arunachal: Convict flees from courtroom, gets caught a day later

Arunachal, June 24: Arunachal Pradesh police in Tirap district experienced an interesting event after a convict managed to flee from the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) courtroom on Tuesday.

Noktey, a former police official and the habitual offender was booked under sections 448/384/506 of the IPC for extorting money from businessmen and locals at gunpoint. He is also a drug addict, officials said.

Noktey Ruttum, a native of Old Paniduria Village in Tirap, was brought to the court for a hearing on the day, fled from the courtroom as the judgement was being pronounced against him to escape detention.

Tirap superintendent of police Kardak Riba, who was informed about the incident at around 01.30 pm on Tuesday, immediately directed the officers’ in-charge of all police stations to block all probable escape routes and carry out a rigorous search at nakas to apprehend the escaped convict.

All intelligence and local sources were also put on alert to trace him out.
