Arunachal: 6,000 Daily Wage Earners in Itanagar region to get free ration

Arunachal, June 1: Home Minister Bamang Felix, Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung, Minister for Education Taba Tedir, IMC Mayor Tame Phassang joined hands to provide free ration items to at least 6,000 daily wage earners/stranded people of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

Home Minister Bamang Felix, Sports Minister Mama Natung, and IMC Mayor Tame Phassang jointly flagged off at least 23 vehicles loaded with ration items which will be distributed in different Wards of the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) at Circle Office here on Monday.

The ration items, which were procured by the ministers and mayor, would be distributed among thousands of daily wage earners and those stranded in the ICR due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The ICR consists of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung informed that the State government is very much concerned about the daily wage earners/stranded people during this lockdown. “No government or individual support lockdown, but it is the only option left for us to control the virus from spreading further,” Natung said.

Felix said, “We are not only concerned about the people and families who have lost their loved ones due to Covid but also for those families who are dependent on daily wages. These contributions are for those who are stranded and cannot avail the benefit of government schemes.”

Phassang said no government funds were used for the ration or its distribution and the contributions were made purely on a personal basis.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu had suggested those willing and capable to contribute towards the daily wage earners and stranded people following we managed to procure these essential items. We also got support from the IMC corporators and well-wishers, he said.

Among others, ICR deputy commissioner Talo Potom, IMC commissioner C Chuku, district food and civil supplies officer Amit Bengia, Naharlagun SDPO D Gumja were present on the occasion.
