Amit Shah talks to CM Sonowal about Assam-Mizoram border situation

Guwahati, 21st October: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday talked to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over phone and took stock of the present situation at Assam-Mizoram border.

Shah enquired about the steps taken by the state government to defuse tension at the border and said that the Home Ministry has initiated steps for maintaining peace at the Assam-Mizoram border.

During the interaction, Assam Chief Minister Sonowal apprised the Union Home Minister of the steps taken by Assam government for normalizing situation at the border.

Sonowal informed that senior-level government official’s discussion to address the border issue has already begun.

Sonowal also informed Amit Shah that his Mizoram counterpart Zoramthanga during a telephonic talk earlier assured him to take positive steps for bolstering peace at the border and strengthening brotherhood among the people of both the states.

Joint Secretary of Union Home Ministry (North East) Satyendra Garg, who has visited Assam as per direction of the Union Home Minister held an important discussion at Silchar on Wednesday, which was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary in-charge of home department of both states.

During the discussion, all border-related issues and steps required to maintain peace and law & order at the inter-state border was discussed thoroughly.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sonowal has directed to ensure seamless movement of trucks and other vehicles through the inter-state border.

The transportation at the border has returned to normalcy as per direction of the Assam Chief Minister.
