After TMC, now CPIM MLA says she will join BJP at Amit Shah rally

Bengal, Dec 18: Amid rumors of a growing number of TMC leaders switching sides to the BJP, a CPIM MLA has announced that she will join the BJP at Union Minister Amit Shah’s rally on Saturday.

Tapsi Mondal, CPIM MLA from Haldia, said on Friday that she is mentally exhausted in her party and will soon join the BJP.

I am mentally devastated here in the CPM. I have been with the party in its most difficult times but the party is not reaching out to the poor. The local-level organization has decayed. So, I don’t think we can work for the people staying in this party,” Mondal said.

Mondal said that she will join the BJP during Amit Shah’s rally on Saturday. Meanwhile, CPIM has expelled Mondal from the party.

Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata on Friday night on a two-day visit to take stock of the BJP’s affairs in the state as the Assembly elections draw near. While senior BJP leaders have paid multiple visits to the state in the last few weeks, Amit Shah’s visit comes at a time the ruling TMC is facing a rebellion.

Speculation is rife that heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari, who quit the TMC and gave up cabinet portfolios in the Mamata Banerjee the government may join BJP during Amit Shah’s visit along with a slew of disgruntled TMC leaders, including some ex-MLAs such as Silbhadra Dutta and Jitendra Tiwari.
